Coast

For the last couple of weeks I have nbeen teaching my students how to use some of the feet on the sewing machine.
The cording, pin tucking and tailor tacking feet so today I made a small piece of work that incorporates them all.
I have also cut out and pinned some felt to make a Swedish inspired bag.

New Ideas

I have been thinking about a new piece of work. Living where we do with the view of all the old cottages up the hill is where I am starting from. I have taken a photo from where I am sitting now.
all sorts of ideas are going through my mind and I have been doing some research as to what Ripponden was like many years ago when there were so many mills here. I also love the many pictures I have taken of Halifax. http://www.gilliantravis.blogspot.com.
I got out my City and Guids research project from the early 90’s and I think i will develop that. I have also found some photos of a Delauney exhibition I went to in the late70’s.

7×5's

The challenge we set is June this year doesnt seem to be working very well. I think maybe i am the only one keeping up so I think I am going to abandon it! I will finish the 3 that i have to do but will probably complete them very soon and not wait until June. The 3 words I have still to do are..
Garden, Luxurient and Passion.
the main reason is because we have had a request to join in with a traditional Patchwork and Quilting group of students and produce a 4″x6″ piece each month. This could be good and I personally have found the words too difficult to follow.
Here are mine so far.. the words go memories, travel, culinary, arches, woolly, birds, dotty, coast and cheerful

New Book

IMG_1997There are some days that are hard being a self employed textile artist and today is one of them – filling in the last bits of my tax return – making sense of all the notes and tiny bits of paper. 2 things have cheered me up – a new book arrived and a letter from a student who was on a course that I ran on Sunday

‘Many thanks for the workshop on Sunday, I had forgotten how inspirational and enthusiastic a teacher you are. I came away full of ideas and techniques I am longing to try”

…and I was full of cold!

New 7×5

Here is Dotty
I took these photos this week of the ice and have made this piece very quickly – just strips of dyed facric that I screen printed and block printed and then added some machine embroidery over the top.
My CQ@10 is finished and now has a cord all around the edge. Maybe one of the miners could do with a bit more facial hair but i can paint that in anytime.
