I have been working on a 30cm x 60cm size recently for various reasons. I love the markets in the Middle East in particular those in Jerusalem and Tel Aviv. When i was there in October I took lots of photographs of the pomegranates and have used these photos as inspiration for my new set of quilts.
i have been working out quick and easy ways of doing applique using Bondaweb. Over the last few years i have been using Heat n Bond lite but have found that students turn up on a workshop with only Bondaweb and it wont work in the same way. So I have a new way to use Bondeweb. It will make a good new workshop – I just need to write it up and put it on my website.
My new quilts use Notan and Counterchange design principals and I love it. So do my current students who meet at my weekly class in my studio.
I should be able to post some of their work soon. I just always forget to photograph it.
So here are some of my new quilts. Some are not finished- they need stitching and edging now.
Yesterday I had a lovely day ( yes – it was a beautiful day outside and I was inside all day!) teaching how to make flowers. Here are some of the results of their work.
And here is the lovely email i received this morning
Thank you for a lovely day on Sunday. I have had nothing but positive feedback from everyone who came to the workshop. It was such good fun and we all came away with our lovely flowers. They are definately going to be a favourite activity to do in the group. Best wishes from all
Half Term October 2014 Winter School
Following the success of this year’s course I will be running another course next year.
3 Day Course at my studio
28th, 29th, 30th October 2014
We will use Lana threads and 12 weight threads
Scandinavian / Baltic designs – brighter colours – red, black, blue, yellow, green
Traditional English crewel work – pinks, purples, greens, browns
Full Programme to follow
Spaces available for 8 students
9.30 – 4.00
You must have your own machine that is capable of free machining.
These are just a few examples of pieces I have made using Lana thread. There are plenty of other options – different colours etc and plenty of time to do some more samples.
I have lots of Lana thread in more subtle colours for students to use.
One of my new students asked “How do you design?!” I have been showing some simple methods of design.
Here are some of my pages of my sketchbook
With lots of paper design exercises done I then made some fabric samples.
More fabric samples made – this one could become a quilt.
I received an email today from someone who had bought one of my Flower Kits.
These are beautifully stitched.
I finished my small 30cm x 60cm quilt today and I am pleased with it.
I could go on and make more but i have some ideas following my visit to The Giants causeway yesterday that I want to translate into quilts
I’m really enjoying working on my new quilt. No drawings this time – just lovely fabric and a bit of fiddling.
It should make a good workshop – already booked to teach at the Bramble Patch in November – Pomegranate wallhanging but it could be apples, pears or peppers.
I’m sure by then I will have made more Pomegranate quilts
