New Stitched piece

I am a member of another International group, with members from the UK, France, USA, Belgium, Holland and Russia. It is early days for the group but we have a blog spot and there are some good quilts on show so far.

Here is the first finished piece for the group. It is based on textiles seen in a shop in Delhi. It is a practice piece for a larger one that i am doing but it isn’t finished yet

I finished another piece this week, for an exhibition. It’s an embroidery exhibition so it has more embroidery on it than I usually do, but I did cheat by using the ready stitched shisha glass.

It’s been a colourful week! I needed a bit of colour this week – tax form completed – I just have to press that final button – Submit! Phew!

My New Man

Here is my new Voyage Quilt.

It is painted with added applique.

Given me lots of ideas for the next quilt.

Another Voyage Quilt

I just wasn’t happy with the grey quilt, so I’ve done another one today. This new approach will give me something to work at and keep me going for the rest of the year. I have changed my mind and I will do the Earth People theme now. I quite often change my mind at the beginning of the year.

I started painting the face

Here is the finished quilt (not the best photo) and I am much happier.

I have a new book – no time to look at it yet but I liked the graphics and I love her quilts

I have been thinking today what I should display when I have a demonstrator stand at Event City in Manchester. Here is the leaflet, (with my name on)IMG_2232

I just wanted to make a few things, other than quilts, so made a few scissor cases to sell. Lets hope they sell, and how much do I charge for them?IMG_2235

Tomorrow I’ll take a better photo of my new quilt

New Voyage Quilt

I made the first of 2014’s Voyage quilts this week. The theme this year is Earth and I have chosen the Earth – patterns option. I looked at my photos of the Giants Causeway and made a drawing. i then appliqued some grey fabric on to a block background, discharged some colour out, adding more colour back in and added some stitching . I’m not sure that i like it!

Maybe it is the grey! I like all my quilts to remind me of good times, and it wasnt a grey day! it was a lovely day and it is a fabulous place to visit.

So, I wont post it on the Voyage blog just yet, I might do another one.

This week i have been trying to change my website and have written another article, amongst many other things. I have chased up all the other articles and YES they are going into magazines but they are all in a few months time.

Here is a photo of one of the projects for a magazine, not sure if it will go in or not.

yesterday as I was fed up with admin, designing, having to feel that everything i did had to be perfect I made 25 scissor cases (no photo). Hope they sell well. I also did some designing for ipad cases. Watch this space for some finished cases

Thinking and writing a list!

Over the last few weeks I seem to have worked so hard, has it all been worth it? I have written an article for Sewing World, one for Workbox, two for Stitch magazine, one for Down Under Quilts and an interview for The Art of Quilting. None of them have been published yet, and I certainly will not get rich from the money earned from them. I hope to sell some flower kits, books and generate some interest in my teaching whether it is here or some of the residentials that I am teaching.

I feel like I have become a part time travel agent booking my trip to India – for my bursary to learn some block printing etc in Bhuj, and my trip to Canada has taken up loads of my time. I’m sure all my organisation will be worth it and both trips will be a great success.

I seem to have spent hours writing up course proposals, requirements lists etc. let’s hope all the courses that are planned actually run. I have added a new Pomegranate Workshop to my list of courses. This new course uses Notan and Counterchange design principles and I am looking forward to teaching it – My first booking for this course is at the Bramble Patch later in the year. Must add it to my lists on the right page of my website.

I have masses of exhibitions planned this year

Exhibition at Quilt Cabin Hebden Bridge- Yorkshire

ICHF show in February in Manchester

ICHF show in March in Birmingham

ICHF show in April in London

Easter Exhibition at the Bramble patch in Northampton

Quilt Expo in Veldhoven in May

My quilt is in the Horisons Exhibition at Ledbury in April, then going on to Prague

Another quilt is with the CQ exhibition in London in March

My Transforming tradition Quilt is with the Hidden Histories Exhibition doing the rounds of the shows

2 CQ Journal Quilts of mine are doing the rounds of the shows with CQ

1 quilt is with the Ailsa Craig Committee in Canada doing the rounds of the Trunk Shows, and another one will be part of the exhibition and of course I will be there!

My 2012 Voyage Quilts will be at the ICHF show in London in April

My 2013 Voyage Quilts will be at Beaujolais in France in April

One Sentinelle quilt going to various exhibitions throughout Europe

So all this takes some organising….

OK I need to update my diary…..

I have lots of new quilts ready for Veldhoven Exhibition in May and a few new ones for Sewing for Pleasure in March. It will be good to finally get images on my website but I am trying to keep them hidden right now.

All this might look good but I would love someone to fill my tax form for me!

New Books

Whilst in London I bought a few books – some from a Charity Shop and others from a cheap book shop. I am so pleased to have been able to get a copy of the Stitching Womens Lives book.

And here is a piece I bought from the Women in Bihar that i bought when I was in india

I bought a couple of other excellent books

I made my first Journal Quilt for 2014 today. It seems very small but it is the required 8″ square. It is based on the hangings I saw in the Victoria and Albert Museum on Tuesday.

The photo looks a bit over exposed and the colour looks a bit pink rather than red

If anyone is in and around Yorkshire you might like to call in to the Quilt cabin at Hebden Bridge where I have an exhibition. I am teaching a Flower making workshop on January 28th – there are still some places!

I have just returned from 2 good days in london. I went to get my Indian Visa for my visit in February, but that was just a good excuse to have a couple of shopping days in london. So we went to the Victoria and Albert Museum, Goldhawk Road, Berwick street fabric shops, Paperchase and many more smaller shops. I came back with a rucksac full of exciting things!
