Tuesday 18th February
We set off for a long days travel through rice paddy fields, green fields with cashew nut trees, and banana trees. We stopped at several villages on the way to watch spinning, weaving and dying demonstrations.
We watched a 15-year-old boy already with 2 years experience ties the threads for ikat dying and later weaving. His fingers moved so quickly.
We arrived at Sanbalphur. We sensed there was something the matter. A worried driver explained that there was an advocacy strike and all roads out of town would be closed from 6am to 6 pm – we were to be stranded. That night we ate at the local market for 25p each. We were forced to change our plans and planned a 5.30am departure the next morning.
Lots more pictures to come
