I am currently concentrating on doing a talk about my book “Journeys in Stitch”
My talk includes a slide show of all the drawings and designs featured in my book, photographs of places that have inspired my book and all the quilts.
I have been teaching since 1995 and have taught almost every embroidery and patchwork technique. I specialise in design, felt, print, paint and machine embroidery. I have developed many quick and easy ways of some common techniques eg felt making, applique. I love teaching design skills and how to make the most of your sewing machine.
In 2009 I won a first prize in the Quilt Creation category at the Festival of Quilts with my vase of felt flowers. In this workshop we will make fabric flowers. All of my flowers are wired and made using a sewing machine, although this is not essential.
My piece “Pennine Contrasts” was displayed in the “Made in Yorkshire” exhibition at the Quilt Museum. I have used this technique to make my Istanbul pieces.
We will learn make a design from your own photographs. You may like to make a small hanging of your own house, or somewhere you have been.
We will learn new ways of appliqué. It could also include some printing techniques and machine embroidery
My quilt “Washday Blues” won an Award of merit at the Open European Quilting Championship in Holland in 2011. Use my design to make a Burano House that includes all the washing etc.
Learn quick and easy ways of appliqué using Heat n Bond.
It will also include some machine embroidery skills
In 2008 I won a prize at the Festival of Quilts in Birmingham for my Moroccan slippers. In this workshop we will make a “slipper” that could be used as a pin cushion and scissor case.
Teasels, Cow parsley and Seed heads
In this workshop we will learn how to paint and print backgrounds, taking common wild plants as a starting point.
We will screen print teasels, cow parsley and seed heads and finish off by adding some newsprint applique.
Brown Paper Still Life
Using a still life as a starting point we will learn some drawing skills and experiment with a range of art materials e.g. oil pastels, sticks, inks and paint.
Working on brown paper we will add stencil and block print.
Machine embroidery can be added
Using the 1950’s style of artwork/graphics we will make an appliquéd panel similar to the one shown.
We will print the background, learn new appliqué techniques and machine embroidery skills
I have several more workshops. Please contact me for more information
